Abel Basti
Abel Basti was born July 5th , 1956 in Olivos,
province of Buenos Aires, where he spent his
childhood and youth. He attended Escuela Superior de
Periodismo – Instituto Grafotecnico- in the Capital
Federal and on graduating he worked as a journalist
for Clarin newspaper. During his professional career
he worked in several national papers, but for ten
years that he served as a forest ranger in the
Nahuel Huapi National Park. He has lived in
Bariloche since 1979 and has dedicated his life to
investigate the history of the Nazis arriving in
Argentina. In this southern city he was worked as a
correspondent for "Ambito Financiero" and "La Mañana
del Sur" newspapers, and "DyN" (Diarios y Noticias)
news agency.
The author has published the book ‘Bariloche Nazi’
and several essays on the presence of Germans who
fled Europe when WWII was coming to an end.
Basti has also coordinated and directed several
expeditions in the sea so as to find the wreckage of
the submarines used by the Nazis to come secretly
into Argentina. He has also participated as an
investigator for national and international TV
documentaries. At present he is co-director of
"Periodico del Sur" newspaper
